Adam Hoven and Travis Johnson dominate in season-opening win

Bloomington South has converted into a rec-plus league for the first time ever, moving up to Fridley’s level to bring back the combined rec playoffs in Minnesota. This allows two college players per team, meaning players like Travis Johnson, who played Division III, can play in Bloomington South for the first time.

This is a big help for Total Blend, who used one of their college roster spots on Johnson. He made the most of his Bloomington South debut, putting up 26/14/6 on 11-15 shooting from the field, with half of his 14 rebounds coming on the offensive end in a 110-57 win over Ball.Life. That was good enough for a PPR of 40.2, which wasn’t even a team high.

That belonged to Adam Hoven, whose stats added up to a PPR of 42.9. Hoven put up a triple-double of 30/12/10 on 11-16 shooting, adding six steals.

The new look to Bloomington South will likely shake up the hierarchy of the league. The championship game has been played between the Rebels and Guerrillas for the past three seasons, and the season before that, they played in the semifinals before the Rebels reached the championship. The combined playoffs will bring a greater chance for a mixup this season, and the rule change in Bloomington South has brought in more talent and competition.

Total Blend is a good example of that. Led by Hoven and Johnson, with Da’Jon McKnight, Storm Gram, Lethzee Calderon and new-comer Eli Rogers, who put up 25 points and eight rebounds in his UH debut last night, this team is going to be dangerous. It’ll be interesting to see who will reign supreme at the end of the winter and who wins the 21-team combined playoff tournament.
