SAN ANTONIO: Week 3 Predictions

By Pat Fridley | San Antonio Co-League Coordinator

7:15 p.m. - Reasonable Doubt vs Bigger Than You

After a huge win in Week 2, RD should look to keep the momentum rolling as they lay claim to the title of the "most talented team" in the league. In the other corner, Bigger Than You hasn't lived up to the hype yet, dropping both of their games so far.

RD has a huge team all the way around, and a plethora of "iso" players. They're built kind of like the Lakers in that sense. They love playing against a man to man defense, and that was proven in Week 2 against Sicko Mode. Once Sicko came out of that zone, RD took advantage and blew their pants off by 39 points. They shot above 60 percent from deep last week, and handed out 36 assists as a team. Will that continue?

Bigger Than You looks like they should have a "dreamlike" offense on paper. A "push the pace" point guard in Justin Brickman, a dominant scorer who can read the defense in Chris Johnson, and premier role players all around, this team should lead the league in scoring....except they're not. They're near the bottom of the league in most statistical categories, and they are 3rd to worst in points allowed. That can't happen if they want to win; not only for this game, but the rest of the season as well.

Prediction: Since Reasonable Doubt doesn't read these anyways......we predict Reasonable Doubt wins by 74 points. (Yes, 74 points)

8:15 p.m. Ether vs #LOYALTY

In the "Game of the Week" we've got the top two UNDEFEATED teams squaring off against one another. "Undefeated" is a little overrated, at least this early in the season, but nevertheless, somebody is walking away with an imperfect record.

#LOYALTY looks to be the favorite in this one. They've looked seamless together so far in what look like "effortless" wins. No disrespect to their competition, but rather a compliment to how well Loyalty seems to be gelling together. They play aggressive defense, they rebound well, and they get out in transition. They push the pace, while taking advantage of the oppositions bad shot selection. If you shoot poorly against this team, they'll make you pay. The trio of DaShun Dixon, Matt Kallead, and Raul Aguilar are great fits for this style of hoop with their two-way play, and it shows.

Ether looks to have opposite strengths of LOYALTY. They're bigger, longer, and they prefer the half court as their style of play. Understandably, when you have the most dominant big man in the league, it would benefit you to get him involved. DJ Dubois is having a breakout season so far, and he'll need another big game to give his team the best chance to win.

Prediction: This game should come down to pace, whoever wins that battle should win the game. We love a good rivalry, and Dan Gilbert loves being the underdog, so we'll go ahead and pick #LOYALTY for the win.

9:15 p.m. - Sicko Mode vs Pain

Both of these squads came off of embarrassing losses in their first game, and both will be looking to to put one in the win column on Wednesday. Every time there are two undefeated teams playing each other, we always seem to have two teams without a win play each other as well. Coincidence?

Pain drew a tough match up in Week 1, and had never played together until then. It might not get any better for them unfortunately, as rumors around the gym suggest that their top two draft picks and their captain may be nursing injuries in this one. If that isn't true, then Josh Linson and Chris Molina will need to live up to the hype and deliver a sharp shooting performance against a Sicko Mode squad that forgot how to play defense. However, Joe Snyder could make a difference should he entice Sicko Mode with "all you can eat" wings at Anchor Bar from 9 p.m.-10 p.m. i'm sure a few of them would take that offer…

If Sicko Mode can take anything positive from last week, it's that they were always within a few points, and even held the lead at points during the first half. They looked like they were still getting a feel for each other as well, as their movement wasn't fluid on the offensive end. Sean Dockery is rumored to make a highly anticipated debut as well. If they can take advantage of a depleted Pain team, they might just walk away with a win.

Prediction: If the injury report is true, Sicko Mode catches a break and walks away with a win.
