WESTWOOD: Week 2 Power Rankings

By David Jordan | Westwood Media Associate

Week 1 is in the books, and it was a good one. It started with an opening night entrance for the ages, and set the precedent for what is going to be a great season.  Just about all the games were competitive, but what else can you expect from Westwood? If Week 1 was any indication, we know that we're going to get some fantastic games over the next several weeks. What other way to start this great slate of games than with the upset of Ballaz Club. If nothing else, this proves that this season is anyone's for the taking. Let’s check out this week’s rankings.

1. Legacy (1-0) Last Week’s Ranking - 2

Legacy was given a tough matchup right from the jump and they found a way to deliver. The combo of Ace (20 points, 6 rebounds) and Ty (17 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds) proved to be fruitful as they found a way to get the Week 1 dub. The team as a whole didn’t shoot well, but that may be a good thing for them, as they have proven they can find a way to win, even on a bad night of shooting. Look for David Leder and Shaquan Jones to have better nights moving forward, which will be bad news for Westwood.

2. Ea$y Money (1-0) Last Week’s Ranking - 4

Ea$y Money came to play last week, and it showed. They were Led by Stephen Prescod who finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. As well as E$ played, things should only get better when Curtis Williams and Mike Lowney return. Last week’s win was a statement win in more ways than one, as they were able to defeat a highly respected Ballaz Club team.

3. All Style (1-0) Last Week’s Ranking - 3

All Style trailed the entire game and with the help a technical foul call at the end, they were able to pull out the close win over the Spartans in the closing minutes of their Week 1 game. Royce Veal (26 points, 8 rebounds) hit timely buckets to help keep his team in the game and eventually help them to pull ahead. Moreover, Isaiah Duke and Rennie Cato were not available in Week 1, and should help improve an already well rounded team going forward.

4. Ruff Ryders (1-0) Last Week’s Ranking - 5

Ruff Ryders cruised to a win in Week 1, as the game was pretty much in hand from the jump. Although they were only up by 6 at halftime, the team figured out how to minimize their mistakes in the second half, and blew the game open. The team looked a little rusty at times, but also showed promise for what is to come. Carlos Bermudez - Glean (23 points, 6 Rebounds ) couldn’t be stopped. It was clear that the team has some work to do, but it was enough to earn the 4 spot in this weeks rankings.

5. Ballaz Club  (0-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 1

They say that there’s no such thing as too much of a good thing, but that may be the case for Ballaz Club.  Coming into week one as an early favorite to win it all, BC was brought back down to earth, and quick. Chris McLaughlin (15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assist) has the best night out of this team mates, but they will need more from him if they want a chance to win it all. Scoring was a major need. That could be chalked up to a bad night for the team, but only time will tell. They may get some help in that department from former Brown University player Joe Sharkey. But for now, they’ll have to hold down the 5 spot. With trade rumors surrounding Mike James and BC's interest in him, this could be something big to watch for.

6. Posterized (0-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 6

Posterized had a hard fought game, but couldn’t find a way to get the W in the end. They say that you can often find a valuable lesson in defeat. Well, posterized had four players score in double digits, and it’s safe to say that they all could have played better, and will. A close loss in weak one won’t stop this team. If you listen closely, you can already hear Jimmy Melton (19 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists) talking trash. They’ll be up in the standings in no time.

7. Spartans (0-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 8

The Spartans played a great game against All Style, and , should probably came away with a win. Unfortunately, a late call in a tough game went against them, and it ended up turning the tide in favor of All Style. Adam Quinlan (14 points, 14 rebounds) was a beast on the boards, and Rich Luc (20 points, 3 assist) had the team high in points. This team will be able to compete if they can find their rhythm and stay composed.

8. Beastmode (0-1) Last Weeks Ranking - 7

Welp, what can you do? Beastmode had one of those games where you bury the tape and move on to the next week. Not much went well for them, but that doesn’t mean all is lost. They have to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to mesh with each other. That will be easier said than done, as rumor has it that Mike James is disgruntled and seeking a trade….TO BE CONTINUED.
