FRANKLIN: Week 2 Power Rankings

By Patrick Forrest | Franklin Media Associate

1. The Monstars (1-0)

For the first time in the history of the power rankings there is a new king on the top of the hill.  Led by impressive performances from Chris Harris and Marcus Haislip, the Monstars dispatched of the defending champions, DS, handedly 97-71.  Harris scored 21 points with ease and efficiency, shooting an absurd 88% from the field, Haislip leads all scorers with a 36-point night.  The Monstars came out of the gate on fire to begin the Fall year, putting the league on notices that they are the new top dog.

2.  Commissioner’s Choice (1-0)

Commissioner’s Choice secured the other victory on opening night, defeating Ace in the Cole 62-52 in the opening game.  Alex Sweet is the driving force for team choice, pushing the pace, leading the defense, and playing a great overall game with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.  Zach Leonard led the team in scoring with 23 points and adding 6 rebounds to the stat sheet. Have to shout out our commissioner as well, Tyler Edwards goes for a double double, 10 points and 10 rebounds in his U-Hoops debut.  The schedule gets tougher for Commissioner’s Choice, we’ll see if they can keep their lofty ranking.

3.  DS (0-1)

Tough night for the defending champs, it was a tall order going up against The Monstars, dropping their first ever game.  It was an abnormally tough shooting night from beyond the arc for DS.  Normally the sharp shooting team can get several players going from beyond the arc, but against the Monstars this was not the case.  Mitch Moeller led the team in scoring, filling the bucket with 22 points.  DS will look to regain form this week, getting more from Gary Pesta and Tanner Sharpe, sharp shooters that had an off night.  The first time DS has had adversity, it will be interesting to see how they react.

4. Ace In the Cole (0-1)

Ace In the Cole fell in the opening game to Commissioner’s Choice 52-62.  The fighting Cole’s showed a lot of hear though, fighting back in the second have from a big deficit to make this a game in the closing seconds.  Kendall Graves led the team in points with 15 and is the driving force of Ace In the Cole. Elliot Carney cleaned up the glass, pulling down 12 rebounds for the game.  Ace In the Cole was missing some key players, they’ll need to get them back and need more consistent scoring or this could be a long year.

5. Fly Agents (0-0)

Fly Agents had the bye this past week, not playing keeps them at the bottom of the power rankings.  They’ll look to show their skills this week in their first on the court action.
