Heading into last night’s games in the Charlotte Draft League, JR Rayford’s career-high in points was 39, which he scored in a 75-63 loss last season. He was incredibly efficient in that performance, shooting 14-19 from the field, 6-10 from deep and 5-6 from the free-throw line, adding 15 rebounds.

Rayford shattered his career-high in last night’s 133-92 win for Top Tier, as he scored a new single-game Charlotte scoring record by putting up 65 points, 26 points higher than his previous career-high.

Rayford got to the record by shooting 26-43 (60%) from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line, adding 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Rayford was the star for Top Tier, but they got big contributions from a bunch of their players. Five of their seven players shot 50% or better from the field, and two of their players joined Rayford in recording double-doubles, as Alex Stauffer had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Treval Sullivan had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

This upgrades Top Tier’s record to 7-1, tying them with Born Ballers for the best record in the league heading into the playoffs. On the other end, Why Nots fell to 2-6 to end the regular season. They were seriously hindered by the absence of Tim Szatko last night, who leads the team with 29.6 points and 19 rebounds per game. That would’ve given them a significantly better chance to compete last night, but with the way Rayford played, it probably wouldn’t have mattered.
