Donte Howell and Carlos Valdez are clearly enjoying playing together in the Garden City Draft League.

They started their run together last season when Howell drafted Valdez, and it clicked right away. They ended up going 11-0 last season and winning the title, even though Valdez didn’t play in the championship game.

Garden City allows one keeper, so Howell stuck with Valdez after last season’s success and things are rolling just as well as they did last season. Howell and Valdez have helped lead Dinkin Flicka to a 3-0 start to the winter season, winning those three games by an average of 18 points.

You really don’t need much more information than that to show how well this partnership is working. But Howell and Valdez are so in the zone right now that they decided to do a post-game interview last night in the pilates studio at the Garden City Life Time, and they look and sound as zen as possible.

Howell asked Valdez only one question, and it was a simple one: “How did you feel about today’s win,” (spoken in a soft, curious tone, making Howell sound like a psychiatrist).

“We feel like our game was more spiritual today. We were connected, we were one, and that made us win. What we can take away form this victory is we’re a team, we’re together, we’re like water, and water is fluid, it’s everywhere, in and out,” Valdez said in a hushed, relaxed voice.

This all had the feel of an SNL skit, and that was made more genuine when Howell broke out into laughter, channeling Jimmy Fallon from his run on SNL, where he broke character routinely.

I’m not sure how many more episodes of “Hello” will air, but if Dinkin Flicka keeps winning, I’m sure Howell and Valez’s attitude after games will remain relaxed.
