L.C. Comine becomes the first player in UH history to win 21 championships

Ever since I started working for Ultimate Hoops over four years ago, the top of the list of championships won on the leagues website was a rotation of Mckinsey Golfin, Ryan Jansen and Joe Kassis.

L.C. Comine has been climbing up that list aggressively, winning six titles in 2018 and winning five this year. The fifth of 2019, and the 21st of Comine’s career, came last night in the Summerlin Vet League, where Comine’s Easy Go Travelers defeated All Day 90-74.

Easy Go Travelers were led by Hollis Hale (who won his 16th title) and Kodiak Yazzie (who won his 10th), who each scored 25 points and combined to shoot 17-32 (53%) from the field and 8-19 (42%) from deep.

Comine getting to 21 is the headline, but it’s also significant to point out that this was Ken Lisle’s first championship after 257 games played over the course of seven years.

Comine started playing in UH on July 17, 2012 in the Summerlin Open League. While titles have become almost a routine for him now, he didn’t win his first championship for over two years, as he won the Summerlin Draft championship on September 25, 2014 in a 90-78 win for All Hustle, No Skill. He’s gone on to win 20 more since that first. Here’s the breakdown of how many titles he’s won in each league:

Green Valley Vet: 4

Summerlin Rec: 2

While Comine sits alone atop the all-time championships won list, he might have company soon. Golfin won in the semifinals of the Shelby Open League this week. The championship game is scheduled for tomorrow, so Golfin could become the second player to have 21 titles in about 24 hours. Until that game is decided, Comine can enjoy his status as the Phil Jackson of Ultimate Hoops.
