Any one who has watched or played basketball knows how important rebounding is to winning games, as it’s the main way to end or extend possessions. We asked a few of our UH trainers across the country for tips on how to become a better rebounder. Follow these steps and you’ll be on your way to becoming the next Dennis Rodman.

Ken Koerner - Syosset, NY: Have the “Go Get It Attitude”. A lot of players wait for the ball to come to them and others go and get it. Be the person who anticipates the miss and gets themself in a good rebounding position to grab every rebound.

Kwame Ofori - Centerville, VA: Box out, then go after the ball.

Peter Fabiano - Florham Park, NJ: Box out and keep your eye on the flight of the shot so you can anticipate how and where it will bounce off the rim.

Cassidy Klinefelter - Folsom, CA: Fight for position early, be low and solid, then explode for the rebound.

Adrian Woodard - Bergen County, NJ: Positioning: Anticipate where the ball will come off. Attack with your hips to the other person’s legs.

Bryce Lewis - Berkeley Heights, NJ: Assume every shot is a miss and use drills to analyze and anticipate how rebounds will behave off different shots.

Lorenzo Orr - Lakeville, MN: The best rebounders do their work early. When a shot is going up, locate your man as fast as possible and box him out. Getting a early jump on your man will help you secure extra rebounds.

Jonathan Nester - Franklin, TN: The way that you become a good rebounder is not going after the rebound once the shot is taken. It’s about making contact with the person that you’re guarding, and driving them out from underneath the basket.

Reggie Thompson - Woodstock, GA: Hustle, hustle, and more hustle! Work on reaction drills; footwork is the most important in this game. Box out, turn and seal, and don’t let anyone outwork you being first to the basketball.

Nick Malonga - Warrenville, IL: Effort! Go after every rebound. In basketball, the best rebounders are not the tallest players, but the players that have a desire to rebound. The best way to be a great rebounder is to be determined to try to get every rebound.
