Casey Hippert, Jay Resto and multiple absentees contribute to Black Widows' first loss in MetroWest

The MetroWest Draft League has been dominated by the Black Widows this season, who were 6-0 coming into Week 7, including two wins over the defending champs, Buckets Galore.

That undefeated season came to an end last night in a 69-68 loss, but it came without two of their best players in Sam Longwell and Roland Millien. Those two have combined to average 46.5 points, 16.8 rebounds, 9.8 assists and 4.4 steals this season.

This put a lot of the scoring burden on Arinze Obiora and Michael Perreault, who have combined to average 38.7 points per game this season. They both struggled offensively in last night’s loss, as they combined to score 33 points on 11-34 shooting from the field.

Team Classic wasn’t at full strength either, as Mychal Parker, who’s averaged 22.5/17/6 this season, wasn’t in attendance. They were able to pick up the win through the play from the players that were there, and that includes Casey Hippert and Jay Resto.

Hippert scored a game-high 25 points on 10-17 shooting, adding nine rebounds. Resto contributed 11 points, a game-high 14 rebounds (despite being the shortest guy on the court at 5’7”) and eight assists.

This shouldn’t be a problem for the Black Widows going forward, as you’re expected to lose when you’re missing two of your three highest scorers. They’re still the best team in MetroWest and have a shot at being the favorites entering the combined Boston playoffs with Westwood and Burlington, which is set to start in two weeks.
