The rematch of Malik Wood vs. Griffin Markwith goes in favor of Wood and Alpha Elite

Just under a month ago, The Marauders played Alpha Elite in the opening week of the Alpharetta Draft League, with The Marauders winning 76-75. That was the first matchup between Malik Wood and Griffin Markwith, and while both had phenomenal games, it was Markwith who picked up the win. Here are both of their stat lines from that first matchup.

Markwith: 31/17/4 on 10-15 shooting and 11-15 from the free-throw line, good for a PPR of 43.7

Wood: 37/12/5 on 12-23 shooting and 8-12 from the free-throw line, good for a PPR of 47.5

This would foreshadow how both Wood and Markwith would go on to play for the rest of the season, as they have the two highest PPR’s in Alpharetta. Wood leads the league with a PPR of 35.9, and Markwith isn’t far behind with a PPR of 34.8.

They were back at it again last night, as The Marauders and Alpha Elite had a rematch of Week 1’s close battle. Wood and Alpha Elite were able to turn the tables this time and settle the season series, as they defeated The Marauders 75-68.

Wood and Markwith both were not able to match their statistical performance from Week 1, but they were both fantastic once again. Markwith had 25 points and 11 rebounds on 11-18 shooting, while Wood had 35 points and nine rebounds on 13-20 shooting.

Despite the great stats Wood has put up, this was the first win of the season for Alpha Elite. Part of that is because Wood has missed two games, which certainly doesn’t help. Markwith has had similar struggles, as The Marauders have gone on a three-game losing streak after starting the season 2-0. We’ll see if either of them are able to start consistently turning stats into wins.
