Eric Nixon helps keep the Lakers undefeated in Gaithersburg

Nixon

The Lakers almost lost out on their perfect season in the Gaithersburg Draft League two weeks ago when they defeated the Warriors 93-92. Eric Nixon led the Lakers with 27 points in that game, and they got 22 points apiece from Michael Smith and Patrick Kohlmann.

The Lakers escaped with another close win last night, as they defeated the Grizzlies 73-71, improving their record to 6-0. It was Nixon who led the way again, as he scored a season-high 43 points in the win. He was on fire from all over the court, as he shot 12-19 from the field, 4-8 from deep and 15-17 from the free-throw line.

The biggest difference between last night’s win and the win against the Warriors was the performance of Nixon’s teammates. Smith and Kohlmann combined for 44 points against the Warriors but only combined to score 13 points against the Grizzlies. The only Laker to score in the double digits besides Nixon was Zach Mink with 11 points.

This was Nixon’s most dominant performance of what has been an incredible fall season. He is averaging 37 points per game, and his 27-point performance against the Warriors was his lowest scoring game of the season. It was also the only game this season where he shot under 50% from the field and under 50% from deep. Through six games this season, Nixon is almost in the 60/50/90 club, as he has shooting splits of 61/51/89.

If those numbers continue, a perfect season is within reach.
