Michael Mastro ties Antoine Lynch for the most offensive rebounds in UH history, and Paul Ferber is not far behind

Michael Mastro

Coming into the fall season, Michael Mastro and Paul Ferber both had 1,644 career offensive rebounds, five behind Antoine Lynch, the all-time leader in Ultimate Hoops history.

Both Mastro and Ferber started their fall season campaigns this week, with Mastro playing in Garden City and Ferber in Bloomington South. Both had monster games on the boards, with Mastro grabbing 17 rebounds and Ferber grabbing 16. Ferber was one short of Mastro, and he had one less offensive board, as Mastro got five while Ferber got four.

This puts Mastro in a tie with Lynch for the most offensive rebounds in UH history. He surpassed Lynch as the all-time leader in total rebounds in September, 2018, and now he’s just one offensive board away from being the all-time leader in total, defensive and offensive boards.

He’ll likely achieve that tonight, as the Syosset Draft League is set to kick off its fall season. Considering Mastro has averaged 4.5 offensive board in his UH career, I’d say it’s a safe statement to say he can get at least one tonight.

So who will end the season with the most offensive rebounds, Mastro or Ferber? Mastro would be a heavy betting favorite, and the only thing that would keep that from happening would be an injury or consistent absences. Ferber has averaged 4.0 offensive rebounds per game over the course of his career, 0.5 fewer than Mastro. Mastro also plays in two leagues, while Ferber exclusively plays in Bloomington South.

If they rebound to their averages, Mastro would get 68 (rounded up from 67.5) offensive boards this season compared to Ferber’s 28 (excluding any possible playoff games). That would put Mastro at 1,717 and Ferber at 1,676.

The one x factor in all of this is Lynch, who hasn’t played in an Ultimate hoops game since the Summer of 2017. He is not playing anywhere this season, and even if he does make a comeback anytime soon, Mastro and Ferber will have a significant head start ahead of him on the leaderboard.
