$hmoney Narrowly Avoids being Burned in Week 2

BURLINGTON: Week 3 Power Rankings

By David Jordan | Burlington Media Associate

Week 2 in Burlington wasn’t pretty with a couple of blowouts and a forfeit loss. But the matchup between $hmoney and Fire was can’t miss action! In what may have been one of the best games in UH Burlington history, $hmoney was able to walk away with the close win against  Fire. The matchup was so good, we can’t wait for round 2. Let’s take a look at this week’s power rankings.

1. $hmoney (2-0) Last Weeks Ranking - 1

What. A. Game! $hmoney narrowly escaped defeat, earning the W against Fire. Jason LaPlanche (20 Points, 10 rebounds, 8 assist) flirted with a triple-double, and Stephon Prescod (11 points, 13 rebounds) had a double-double of his own to help get their team the win. It wasn’t easy by any means, but a W is all that matters. You can’t let a Jason LaPlanche team get hot from beyond the arc, which is exactly what happened, but it was a bounce pass through two defenders with two seconds left from JLaPlanche to Zee Zhang for a go ahead layup that resulted in $hmoney keeping the top spot in Burlington.

2. Dream Team (2-0) Last Week’s Ranking - 2

Boston Bane and friends made it look easy way on the court last week with a blowout win over a shorthanded Wildcats squad. What’s more impressive is that the whole team scored in double digits, and shot tremendously as a team. Man advantage or not, shooting 56 percent from the field for an entire game is still pretty good. Thomas “Boston Bane” Morales (31 points, 13 rebounds) was his usual self, and Jeff Raymond (19 points, 8 rebounds) was a major contributor as well.

3. Fire (1-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 4

You can’t get any closer than a one point loss. Fire has to hold their heads high, going toe to toe with the reigning league champions and nearly getting the win. Both teams scored 33 in the second half, as the one point difference in the first half was the deciding factor in the game. Calvin Pinney (22 points, 16 rebounds) was the standout for Fire.

4. Reformation  (1-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 5

Reformations received a win due to a forfeit against Legendary.

5. Legendary (1-1)  Last Week’s Ranking - 3

Legendary received a loss due to forfeiting against Reformation.

6. The Rox (1-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 7

The Rox bounced back after a tough week one loss to the Dream Team by handing the Wolves a 20-plus point loss. The Rox made sure to avoid going 0-2 behind a strong performance from Thomas Ugbesia (23 points, 10 rebounds). The team played well defensively, finishing with 8 steals while holding the Wolves to just 18 second half points, and 37 for the game.

7. Wildcats (0-2) Last Week’s Ranking - 6

What should have been the game of the week against the Dream Team ended up being a nightmare for the Wildcats. The was forced to play with four players, and that’s never a good thing, especially when you have to deal with Tomas Morales on the other side. The team did the best they could, as everyone scored in double digits, led by Tim Williams with (23 points) and Sam Huggan (13 points, 10 rebounds). The team has talent, but they have to show up in order to compete!

8. Wolves (0-2) Last Week’s Ranking - 8

The Wolves had yet another rough outing in Week 2 as they were handed a 24-point loss at the hands of The Rox. Isaac Remy (18 points, 5 rebounds) and Jackson Scrivani (7 points, 11 rebounds) were the team standouts in an otherwise dull performance. Shooting only 26 percent from the field as a team, they have to find ways to put the ball in the basket, otherwise it will be a long season.
