Basketball Trainer Bio & Development Philosophy
For nearly a decade, I have dedicated my time to developing youth basketball players and helping them build confidence both on and off the court. My experience includes coaching AAU club teams, leading youth and high school programs, running clinics and skill development sessions, and working closely with families to help players reach their individual goals.
Over the past four years, I have served as a head coach at the AAU and youth levels, developing athletes to compete in high-level tournament environments while emphasizing long-term player growth. Throughout my coaching career, I have coordinated player development programs, communicated directly with families, and created structured training environments that help athletes improve while enjoying the game.
My Training Philosophy
Every player is different, which is why I believe development should begin with a collaborative approach between the athlete, parents, and myself, preparing for competitive team play, or focusing on specific skill development; each training plan is designed around their individual goals.
My objective is to develop complete basketball players. While many programs focus heavily on scoring skills, I believe true player development includes every aspect of the game: ball handling, shooting, passing, footwork, defense, athletic movement, basketball IQ, teamwork, and confidence. I want every athlete to be prepared to step into any program with a well-rounded skill set and a strong understanding of how to impact the game.
For younger athletes (ages 6–8), sessions emphasize movement, coordination, confidence, teamwork, and fundamental basketball habits through engaging games and activities. Research and experience show that young athletes learn best when training is fun and interactive, so sessions follow a progression-based approach that keeps players active and engaged.
A general framework I utilize for younger athletes is:
70% game-based learning
20% skill instruction
10% explanation and discussion
As athletes grow older and gain experience, training becomes increasingly tailored to their skill level, goals, and competitive aspirations. More advanced players can expect a greater emphasis on detailed skill development, decision-making, game situations, and position-specific training.
What You Can Expect From Me
Thoughtfully planned and organized training sessions
Clear and timely communication with parents
A positive and encouraging learning environment
Focus on both skill development and character growth
Accountability, effort, and attention to detail
A commitment to making the process enjoyable while challenging players to improve
Most importantly, I want every athlete to leave training more confident than when they arrived. Development happens when players feel supported, challenged, and excited to learn. My goal is to help each player build skills, develop a love for the game, and gain the confidence to succeed wherever basketball takes them.
