SYOSSET: Week 5 Power Rankings

By Anthony Leo | Syosset League Coordinator

1. Hooligans (3-1)

The Hooligans are no longer undefeated after suffering a bad loss to the Walking Dead. The Hooligans were up big in this game and let the game get away from them. They were outscored 41-19 in the second half and had no flow on offense. Despite the loss they still come in at the number-one spot because of their history as the Hooligans and always bouncing back. Jay Harris and the team will get back on track and will try to do that against the Dream Team who they have next on their schedule.

2. Ballerz (2-1)

The Ballerz did not play last week due to some conflicts and are waiting for the game to be rescheduled. However, some of their best players including team captain Mike Seff are suffering from injuries. If Seff and others are out for this week’s games it will make it a lot tougher for the Ballerz. Top to bottom the Ballerz have one of the best rosters, but without their leading scorer the offense will take a huge hit. We’ll see how they adjust this week without Seff.

3. Dream Team (2-1)

The Dream Team was scheduled to take on the Ballerz last week but the game was moved. The Dream Team got a full week of rest and now will come out ready for their Week 5 matchup. Chris Albano and the team are coming off a win in their last game and want to carry that momentum into this week. As a team they have moved the ball around well and got help from a lot of different guys on the team. If they can continue to get big games from Albano and big shots from some of their role players they will be a dangerous team.

4. Let’s Do This Again (2-2)

Let’s Do This Again is coming off a loss to the Shooting Stars last week and they have now dropped two straight games. They still rank second in the league in points per game and assists, but it hasn’t translated to wins because of their defense. Defensively they are allowing just as many points as they are scoring and they are not rebounding the ball well. If Adam Sutton and the team want to get back on track they need to pick up the effort on defense and on the boards. If they get out and run they are at their best with Jared Wulfow pushing the ball and getting downhill in the paint.

5. Walking Dead (1-3)

The Walking Dead got a huge win over the Hooligans and finally got on the board with a win. They did an excellent job defending the Hooligans and guys on the team got more aggressive offensively. Tom Dimicelli continues to score 30 per game, but he has started to get help from Dave Romilus and Dave Konecky. If both Romilus and Konecky can play big minutes scoring the ball it will help take the scoring load off of Dimicelli. We’ll see if they can keep it going and play another solid game like they did against the Hooligans.

6. Shooting Stars (1-3)

The Shooting Stars are also coming off an upset win of their own over Let’s Do This Again. Team captain Alain Wehder was on fire and dropped a season high 39 points. He carried the team to a win while Justin Dattolo tried to get his legs back under him. Dattolo is still not 100 percent with an ankle injury, but when he gets back this team will have another weapon that can score the ball. As a team they have improved each and every game. The most important thing for the Shooting Stars to improve on is their defense. They rank last in points allowed and have to bring more of an effort to get big stops when they need them and not take plays off.
