Down Goes Recspekt!

SUMMERLIN REC:  Week Four Power Rankings

By L.C. Comine | Summerlin Media Associate

1. Ball Is Life (4-0)

Another impressive week for the Ball Is Life squad as they took care of the Easy Go Travelers 84-68.  It was an impressive performance to say the least.  They shot 52 percent as a team, played fantastic team defense, and had this game in control form the opening minutes.  Bobby Mears had a big game scoring 18 points, shooting 8-12 from the field and grabbing 16 rebounds.  MVP Chris Ford scored 22 points and hit 5-8 from deep, and Mihail Kocevski had 20 points as well.

Ball Is Life is showing that they have multiple guys who can beat you and on any given night it could be someone else.  This team is as complete as they have ever been and it looks like they are really starting to round into form.  They have Beacon in week five so it looks like 5-0 is in the cards for Ball Is Life.

2. Chris’s Angels- (3-1)

Who said we don’t play defense in Summerlin?  The Angels proved that defense is played and it’s played at a very high level.  The Angels made a statement this past week as they upset the three time defending champs Recspekt 45-36.  They held Recspekt to 30 percent shooting, 20 percent from deep, and the Angels out rebounded them 34-28.

The Angels played this game at their pace and were able to frustrate the champs.  Adam Schmitt and Henry Nguyen led the Angels with 13 points a piece to lead the way.  After an opening night loss the Angels have now won three straight and look to be getting back into that championship form something we really haven’t seen from them since they won their only title back in the Summer 2017 Season.  They can make another statement this week as they take on the Easy Go Travelers.

3. Recspekt (3-1)

The champs aren’t too worried about their loss to Chris’s Angels.  They took their defeat and from the looks of it last week they weren’t too concerned about it.  Recspekt played without Charles DeJohnette, Jacob McDonald, Haley Vinson, Mike Stevens, and Will Holvoet.  With out some key pieces they only lost by nine.

Edward Vaughns scored 21 of the teams 36 points in the loss.  Recspekt will be fine and the only concern I would take from this loss is the fact they were without some key players.  This team will be fine and it will be hard to imagine they aren’t playing for their fourth consecutive title.  I feel bad for SP 101 because they are going to feel the wrath of Recspekt this coming week.

4. WTF JR?  (3-1)

WTF JR? had their way with BAR this past week defeating them 73-41.  Sean Breen had an impressive game scoring 24 points and dishing out 10 assists, along with 4 steals.  John Murillo and Max Miller-Hooks IV both had 14 points and 10 boards.

WTF JR? is a battle-tested team that is going to keep getting better and better each week.  WTF JR?  has their sights set on making a championship run and they have the roster to compete with anyone.  Should be an easy week five for WTF JR? as they get HYR Life.

5. Beacon (2-2)

Each week now Beacon is getting better and better.  They won their second-straight game as they defeated Hickory 67-64.   Beacon got solid performances out of Marcus Milner who scored 18 points and Tyler McCammon who had 15 points, 8 boards, and 5 assists.  Beacon is now top four in the league in defense and they are also starting to shoot the ball a bit better.

This team is definitely one to watch over the next couple weeks and if they continue to gel they may be able to knock a team off or possibly make a run come playoff time.  Beacon can prove they are a contender this week as they play Ball Is Life.

6. Easy Go Travelers (2-2)

This team has been the most disappointing team so far this season without question.   Easy Go fell to 2-2 this past week with a very un inspiring effort against Ball Is Life.  Easy Go lost 84-68 and if you watched them game you probably felt it was a lot more.  The key moving forward for Easy Go is just plain effort.  The guys on this team know how to win and understand what they need to do.

Easy Go is hoping Sam Earl makes his debut in Week 6 but they most figure it out this week.  This week Easy Go gets Chris’s Angels.  It’s a game that Easy Go can win and should win.  Season isn’t over if they lose but sitting at 2-3 with three weeks to play is not where anyone thought this team would be.

7. SP 101 (2-2)

Look out SP 101 is sitting at 2-2 at the midway part of the season after holding off HYR Life 76-71.  Three players scored in double figures for SP 101 and Mikey Margolin led the way scoring 20 points in just his second UH game.  Manzik Kaden had 17 points and 8 assists and Max Wong scored 16 in his second UH game as well.

It’s obvious this team has some talent and are much better to compete than a normal Free Agent squad.  It looks like they are developing some chemistry and they will hope to build on that some more this week.  They have a tough challenge as they get Recspekt coming off their first loss of the season.

8. Hickory Huskers (1-3)

Well after a big week one win Hickory has lost three straight after they fell to Beacon 67-64.  Brock Berglund continues to be the bright spot for Hickory as he scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Hickory for the second straight week.  Brett Husson scored 18 points as well with all his points coming from deep as he shot 6-9 from there.

Hickory is much improved over the previous seasons and I expect them to win a few more games.  I think they will be in most of their games but they will need a lot more out of their GM Kerry Knoll.  Knoll has only scored 17 points combined in the last two games and we all know that is well below is average.  This team goes when Knoll is scoring and shooting at a high percentage.  Hickory will look to break their losing streak this week against winless BAR.

9. HYR Life (0-4)

HYR started to show some signs of life this past week in a 76-71 loss to SP 101.  The 71 points is the most they have scored since Week 1 and the five-point loss is the closest game they have had since last season.  Bohao Li had a fantastic game for HYR Life this past week.  Li scored 29 points, shot 11-12 from the field, and he grabbed 9 boards.  Nathaniel Burgess scored 21 points as well.  It’s evident that HYR Life needs to find a way to get Li more involved.  He is shooting 65 percent on the season and the next closest to him is shooting 44 percent.

It will be interesting to see if they look for him more starting this week or will it be more of the same.  One guy on this team has shot 105 times in four games.  The next guy has only shot 37 times.  HYR Life gets WTF JR? this Tuesday.

10. BAR (0-4)

At least BAR looks good out on the court with their new uniforms they debuted last week but it didn’t help the on-court performance as they fell to WTF JR? 73-41.  The 41 points is a season low for BAR and they continue to struggle shooting the ball as they are now shooting 32 percent on the season.

I don’t think much is going to be able to help this BAR squad this season and looking at their schedule week eight may be the only opportunity for them to get a win.  This week they get Hickory.
