COLORADO SPRINGS: Do you agree with Richard Gray's week 2 predictions?

Predictions by Richard Gray

Week two is sure to be full of excitement, surprises, and some great games.

Downtown and Classics

Tipping off the early game will be the defending champions Downtown. Downtown is currently on an 11 game winning streak and hasn’t lost since losing to their week two opponent, The Classics in week one of the Fall 2011 season.

This is quickly become a classic rivalry. Downtown and Classics have already played each other three times with Downtown holding a 2-1 lead. Just like any good team, Downtown did not sit around waiting for the other teams to get better. They went out and did some early Christmas shopping and picked up Isreal Figueroa. Isreal’s pickup was noticed right away in week one. Isreal poured in 24 points to go with 15 boards and four blocks. Isreal’s 29.3 PPR lead all players in week one. Thursday’s game will not be an easy one.

The Classics lead by Steve Nelsons 24 points (PPR of 22.2) pounded Team Flight in week one. The Classics did not add any new players but they are an experienced veteran team that knows how to play team basketball as well as anyone in the league. The Classics had an amazing 19 assist in week one, often times making 6-7 passes before putting up a shot.

Prediction: Downtown continues their winning ways pulling it out in the end with a 63-58 victory.

Swish vs. Hooligans

The 7:00 PM game will feature two teams that did not find the win column in week one. Team Swish comprised of free agents with some Ultimate Hoops experience versus the young and energetic Hooligans. This game will be a fast paced up tempo game from start to finish. Swish is led by Malcolm Robertson (26 points in week 1) and CJ Dumas (13 points week 1).

The Hooligans are coming off a disappointing second half performance against Downtown in week one. The Hooligans are led by Jason Privett who chipped in 14 points in week one going 4/9 from behind the arc. Neither team really lit up the scoreboard or torched the nets last week. As a team, The Hooligans were a mediocre 36% from the floor. Not to be outdone, Swish shot a dismal 29% from the floor and only 8% from behind the arc (2/25).

Prediction: Hooligans should win this one. They will have to play for an entire 44 minutes and put last week’s game behind them. If Swish is to win, they will need contributions from the entire team. 39 of their 47 points were scored by two people. 68-54 Hooligans.

719 Crew vs. Roundball

The 8:00 PM game will be a battle of two teams that know how to score. 719 Crew which is one of Colorado Springs new free agent teams and Roundball will be a high scoring fast paced contest. 719 Crew is legit. Four of their five starters scored in double digits and none of the starters played more than 36 minutes in week one. Besides scoring, 719 Crew knows how to hit the boards and play defense. They combined for 38 rebounds, held Team Swish to 10 first half points in week one and shot a respectable 52% from the floor.

Roundball is full of talent and once they have a few games under their belt together they will be respected by all and feared by most. It’s hard to say who leads Roundball after week one. The entire team is very unselfish (16 assist in week one) with six players scoring in double digits in their week one victory.

Prediction: Call me a wimp but this one is too close to call.

Codera vs. Alabama Hot Pockets (AHP)

9:00 PM games features a battle between two new teams. Cordera is led by Joshua Bevans who scored 25 points in a losing effort in week one. Only one other person (Maxwell Abbott) had more than six points in their week one contest. Alabama Hot Pockets (AHP) are the newest of all the Colorado Springs teams. AHP has yet to play a game as they were on their bye week in week one. AHP will be tipping off with only one person with UH experience and that is Mika Ewald. Mika will need to be the floor captain for AHP if they want to have a successful debut in Ultimate Hoops.

Prediction: This game is a toss up as it is a battle of two “rookie” teams with very little UH experience between them.
