Batiste issues "No Comment" on Best Defender debate | Week 2 MN Rec Recap
MINNESOTA REC: Week 2 action concludes
After two weeks it appears that no one team in Minnesota Rec basketball, besides the Riddlers, has emerged as a dominant force. Cobra Kai is trying to make a case for themselves after beating the Bandits last night 92-86 in overtime.
Cobra Kai, down one player all night, was led in scoring by Sean Ball with 35 points while Peter Mortenson added 31 of his own. Cobra Kai shot 27% from the arc and 46% from the floor, not overwhelming numbers but good enough to get the game into overtime.
The Bandits, led by 33 points from Tarek Hassan, struggled to stop Cobra Kai's scorers and had to rely heavily on their three point shot where they were 14-36. Only getting to the free-throw line 10 times, versus Cobra Kai's 32 attempts also hurt their chances. The Bandits will need a player to step up and penetrate the lane to hopefully draw some fouls.
The formula for beating a 4 or 5 man team is simple. Draw fouls and hopefully have a player foul out by the end of the game. Shooting 2-4 extra free throws at the end of the game can go a long way towards a victory.
Will he or won't he??
Much to our frustration, Avengers guard Derek Batiste would not go on camera to discuss the recent firestorm of criticism his defense has garnered on the UH Life message boards. He just smiled and said, "I don't know what you are talking about.”
