THE PARK, MN: Week 5 Day 1 Recap
Crazy good games at The Park Wednesday night!
Game 1 - Poolboys 96 vs. Bulls 107: With Both teams only running five this game there was plenty of scoring to go around. The Poolboys started out in a 2-3 zone which made the Bulls adjust their game a little bit. The Bulls soon shot the Poolboys out of it ending with a 54-38 halftime lead. I thought the game was over, but apparently the Poolboys didn't. They switched to man, and hit some shots. They were down by as many as 20 but brought it to within 5. But the veteran Bulls withstood the late run led by Mahlon "Moses" Thomas with a sick stat line of 29 points, 7 boards, 3 assists, and 4 blocks! He also had a nice alley-oop dunk at the end of the game, check out some of this pictures on UH's FB page. Seth Haake led the Poolboys with 38 points. The Bulls will be competing in Vegas at the National UH Invitational Tournament this weekend so bring back that trophy fellas!
Game 2 - Average Joe's 76 vs. Rise and Fire 80: It seems like every game the Average Joe's play in comes down to the wire. They started off playing really well as Rise and Fire was really cold from the field. AvJo's got out to a 21-11 lead and that's when RnF got it going. It was quickly 23-24 and by halftime it was tied at 40. RnF was missing star guard Brett Tuma so they got a lot of their scoring from Joe Drapcho. Down the stretch in this close game Mark Cooper Jr. took over bringing his team back from a small defecit. The AvJo's played the foul game and found themselves down by two with a possesion to tie or go ahead with seconds remaining, but RnF's hard defense caused AvJo's Brandyn Frelix to turnover the ball. The AvJo's fouled Tim Olmstead and he sealed it at the line with 2.1 seconds left.
Game 3 - Tillman Inc. 101 vs. Pippen Ain't Easy 95: This game was a battle too. Both Carlton Weatherby and Mark Kruse were playing together for only the second time this season. I thought Pippen was finally going to get a win. But Tillman Inc. had another idea. Pippen came out gunning 3's and shot 39 three pointers this game. However, their percentage was horrible. It kept them ahead in the first half but was their downfall in the second half. Kruse went 7-24 from 3 by himself. With the combination of Pippen relying way too much on the 3 ball and Tillman Inc. getting big shots from Bishop and a ridiculously efficent game from Alex Tillman (41 points on 15 of 20 shots, 8 of 11 free throws) Tillman Inc. once again grinded out another victory.
